TARGET MARKET

When making a song and a music video, the artist needs to know their target audience so that it’s made in a way that will interest them. The target audience is very wide and made by based on their culture, religion, age, gender, where they live, who they are, sexual preferences etc. these things are all taken on board by the celebrity as well as the producer. The producer of the music video will focus on how the video is edited, where it’s located and how they present the celebrity.

Celebrities such as Michael Jackson had a very wide target range, he sang songs that were enthusiastic, sad, emotional, words that had meanings, music videos that also had a meaning this means that many people with different preferences chose those songs, that mostly fitted them. However, a celebrity like Eminem who is a rapper concentrates on a smaller target audience, who is more interested in deep lyrics with a bit of aggression. Therefore there are many ways in which you can set a target audience for yourself by what your lyric is about and what mood your song sets and how you present the music video. Usually, the music video concentrates on promoting the celebrity as much as possible in order to attract their fans, which is another target audience and probably the main one- their fans- the more popular the celebrity is, the bigger target audience they have.

Description of my target audience:

After researching all the music videos, I have been mostly inspired by my friends who are now succeeding in their music career. They mostly concentrated on rap and kept the music videos very simple, for example, the person rapping was shown at all times rapping his verse but in different locations. Although the video is very simple, the whole idea of the music video is for the audience to notice the rapper rapping at all times to really listen to the lyrics and to see their expressions/emotions when they rap it. The locations are also kept very simple, as it’s out in the streets and parks, however many people watching the video are interested in that the most as the places are local and almost everyone will be able to recognise them.

The target audience of these rappers and these music videos is mostly set for people who are feeling what they are feeling as their lyric is usually something others can related to, as everyone comes from the same place and understand many things.

The rappers I got influenced by are: Lady Leshurr, Reo, Naira Marley, Yungen and other people he has worked with. These people inspired me, as they all started from nothing and created something big. They all came from London in places that are local therefore I know Reo, Yungen and Naira Marley, I watched them writing the lyrics and then filming it with their group of friends which I was very inspired by. I am using a rapper’s song called Lady Leshurr who also came from London who everyone now looks up to.

My aim is to show attitude and many emotions through the rap which my friend will rap to and I will have all the other group of girls that are my friends to experience what my friends did. I will make sure that the dress sense is good and make sure that there are some dance moves as it keeps the video very interesting. Therefore I believe that the age of my target audience is at the age of 16-30 and are mostly concentrated on males as not that many females are into trap music. The occupations is the whole idea of the location- that it’s local and recognisable and that these people all know other people from different places that they inspire. It’s also aimed at people who want to rap in the future, which they’re inspired by therefore watching them, will give them a motivation as they all started from the bottom an built their way up to the top. It’s aimed at people who like the styles such as: danger, emotional, meaningful etc.
