Inspiring music videos:
Ain’t on nuttin by Yungen and Meltdown by Ree’z are songs that became popular that many people listen to which was created by people that I know. These two people are a huge inspiration in my life as I grew up with them when they were normal people and have built their way up to the top within the music industry to be one of the most known artists around. They all started from nothing to become artists that many people know about for example Yungen and Lady Leshurr are already getting signed and touring around the world.

There are also a lot of shots of local and familiar places that many people would most likely recognise- this makes the audience more keen to watch the video and support it as the places are local and the people who grew up there will want to watch it and listen to it. There are also shots of fireman and policeman which may represent what type of people they are, they might be doing dangerous things but they’re not scared of it which again makes the audience be scared of them. There are also a lot of edits such different lightings and change of scenes according to the beat and blurs at times- this adds a lot of interest to the video and makes it look much more exotic.
The camera shots such as close ups and medium close ups show the artists clearer making the audience see the artists’ facial expressions to show how they’re feeling when they rap their verse- their faces mostly look angry and unwelcoming which again makes them look dangerous and makes them look passionate about what they’re rapping about.
In the song, the things that they say are quite sexist for example they say: ‘Tonight, I’m on a one night stand’ which mostly talks about women in a sexual matter which many people might be offended by however this is how women are represented in media- as sexual objects. Many rap songs such as this, is about becoming rich and getting money which gives a lot of motivation for the audience, for example: ‘I’ve been up all night, rich that’s how I’m gunna die’.
The video all the way through is very dark as it’s filmed during the night, the point of this theme was to make the artists in the video look dangerous and make it look as if they’re not scared of anything and to make sure that the only thing the audience can concentrate on is the artists rather than the background. The artists all agreed on wearing black and red clothes the aim of this was to look dangerous and scary as the black represents a gangster and a thief which is also why some of them where masks to make people be scared of them, also the red represents them as being violent and rude, someone that people should be scared of whenever they come across with them. Another way the artists look very dangerous is by the way they used the camera angles, they recorded some of the shots diagonally to make the audience feel as if they have been demolished by them which is also why the low camera angles are used to make them see much more powerful and in control. There are also many slow motions and fast motions when recording which makes the video look very prestige, high class and rich.

There are many reverse shots for example when the artist is smoking, I believe that the use of reverse shots, is to make the audience feel as if he’s telling the story from the beginning by going back in time. It also gives the sense of how far the person went through all the struggles in their life to be in the position they’re at now. This video also have a dark setting like most of the rap songs which makes them look dangerous as it’s filmed during the night to create a scary atmosphere. The video is also set in local places which will make the audience want to watch it as there will be recognition of the area and will show support.
The medium and full shots show that the artist is with a group of people to show that these people always stick together and stay loyal to one another. These shots also show what they’re wearing which is mostly black and with hoods to be represented as part of a gang to show that they’re dangerous and make people be scared of them. They also use close ups to show the artist and their facial expressions to show how they’re feeling about the things they’re rapping about to show how passionate they are about what they say and do which brings the artist and the audience closer to each other. There are also shots of the train which is very effective as when the train passes by on the bridge, all you can see is the lights from it and everything around is pitch black which makes everything look very scary and spooky. There are also bright lights coming from the flats which makes it look very mysterious around the darkness. Some of the shots are blurry which goes well with the setting as it makes the audience feel as if they’re hallucinating, the camera is also constantly moving to give the sense of constant action of the artist as well as the use of diagonal angles.

The location of the video is kept simple- low budget as it’s filmed in a hotel- on the balcony and the inside. Even though the location is kept simple, it still has an specific meaning, for example it makes the artist seem rich and want to show that this is how the live life- they work hard to get a lot of money to then spend on entertainment. Again there are many people in the background- behind the artist which suggests that the group of friends always stick together- they show each other support and may also give the audience a sense that they’re partying and having fun. Some of the shots also show the artist’s friends singing along, this makes a huge impact as it shows the audience that the words the artist is saying is what they feel to and agree with which makes the audience feel that way too about the lyric.
There are many full shots in the video to show the mise en scene- showing that they’re in a fancy hotel to make them look rich and shows what they’re wearing- designer clothes which also makes them seem rich. There are also many medium-full shots which shows the hand gestures they make- they show some of the signs such as guns, or they just make hand gestures when they’re singing which makes them seem much more passionate about what they’re singing. There are also many close-ups used to help then audience connect with the artist by seeing their emotions and facial expressions when they’re rapping. There are also many close-ups on alcohol and when the people are smoking to show the audience that this is what they do and how they live whenever they party. This could have a bad influence as they show that this is the right way to live and may encourage the young audience to do that as well. Which also links to what they’re rapping about- most of the lyric is about smoking and drinking which may have a bad influence.
There is also a lot of editing such as changing scenes to the beat of the song to make it more effective- make the audience feel as if they want to party like they are. There are also other edits such as the reverse shots when the artist is walking and slow and fats motions which makes the audience feel as if they’re dreaming which gives them the idea that the artist is living a dream- he’s having fun which rises their reputation to be better. The camera is constantly moving which could mean that their lives is constantly active- they never stop working or partying, it shows that they’re constantly doing something with their lives and staying at the top, also the use of low camera angles makes the artist seem as if they’re really rich, popular and powerful as it makes the audience feel as if they’re on the floor feeling powerless next to the artist. The fact that the video was filmed during the night, gives a lot of shadows in the video which represents violence and being scared of them.
The video was also filmed during the night which represents how they live- work during the day and party during the night. It also makes them look dangerous as they’re showing that they’re not scared of the dark, also because they’re in a group which makes people be scared of them also because of the clothes that they wear- mostly back which makes them look like a gang and we can see this by the use of full and medium shots. There are also long shots of the city during the night which is very effective as you can see the lights from the tall buildings in the city which makes the audience feel as if they’re very rich and fancy as they’re working in that exact city.
There are many camera movements which makes their verses when they sing seem more meaningful and the changes of scenes to the beat makes the video come alive. There are also many low and diagonal camera angles to make the audience seem as if they are knocked out by them, making us feel powerless and weak.
