CONCEPT & NARRATIVE

The idea of the music video is to keep everything simple by not having a story but a simple shots of the artist to make it seem as if they're talking to us about their issues. This will concentrate on the artist's emotional state and how they're feeling and what they're singing is hurting them. There will be some shots of streets to show the idea of the artist walking around their area thinking about their life. I will also be using the style of 'performance video' where I will have short videos of a concert playing in the music video to show the audience that the artist is well rated and is well-known just like the other trap music videos do- they add in shots of the concerts to make them look important and popular. I want the audience to connect with the artist by using a lot of close-ups as I want them, to feel the emotions that the artist is feeling and make them feel involved.

Laura Mulvey's theory goes well with my music video as it introduces men as being the most powerful gender rather than the female. Even though there are no females in my music video, the male artist still sings about a female in a sexual context which makes females look objectified as we're picturing an image in our heads of what he's talking about her which isn't a good representation. It therefore introduces Reo as a dominant man who has women that are willing to be sexual for and objectified which many trap songs do so.

According to Goodwin's theory, the first category of 'Thought through the beat' goes well with my music video as there is one main voice which gives the audience the persona identification that relates to the artist and the story is said through the lyrics- for example his dad dying or about having fake friends, making money etc. There is also the second category which is 'Relationships between the lyrics/song and the visuals as there is a constant repeatability in the camera shots of the artist which pts the image in the audience's heads and sticks with them. It also introduces Reo's own style as the music video is based on the artist's personality rather than the producer telling the artist how to act therefore this allows the audience to get to know Reo more.

When looking at Richard Dyer's Star theory, it fits into my music video because the artist will be based upon how the industry, audience is expecting the artist to be based on their appearance which will be a young black man wearing dark clothes, personality which will be very ghetto, aggressive at times and full of emotions when rapping and the societal status which will be represented as high to the audience as there will be shots of him on stage.
